The Labour Day Classic brings the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to Mosaic Stadium to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders — a raucous, sold-out Regina crowd, a genuine West Division grudge match, and the opening act of the annual home-and-home that ends with the Banjo Bowl a week later.
The rivalry
Bombers–Riders is Canadian football's best blood feud, and the Labour Day Classic is its centerpiece: the first leg of a home-and-home, played at Saskatchewan, before the sides reconvene in Winnipeg the following week for the Banjo Bowl. The Banjo Bowl name dates to a 2003 jab from a Winnipeg kicker at Rider fans, coined into an event in 2004 — two decades of needle that still charges these games.
Two West contenders
This isn't just theater — both teams are near the top of the West. As of late July, Saskatchewan sat around 4–1 and Winnipeg 4–2, so Labour Day carries real standings weight in a tight division. It's also a rematch of a lopsided 2025 series: the Roughriders swept both meetings last Labour Day, winning the Classic 34–30 and the Banjo Bowl 21–13, so Winnipeg arrives with a score to settle.
