Oregon: a playoff team, reloaded

Oregon is the clear headliner. The Ducks went 13–2 in 2025 and reached the College Football Playoff semifinals, and they open 2026 as a genuine national-title contender — ranked near the very top of the preseason polls. Crucially, quarterback Dante Moore, a Heisman candidate, passed on the NFL Draft to return for another year, giving Oregon one of the sport's most established offenses coming out of the gate.

Boise State's Pac-12 debut

For Boise State this is a milestone: its first game as a member of the rebuilt Pac-12. The Broncos — perennially the top-ranked Group of 5 program in recent years — return a solid core (roughly six offensive and five defensive starters) behind quarterback Maddux Madsen. But this is a tall Week 1 ask: Boise opened as a 24.5-point underdog on the road, and Oregon is exactly the kind of opponent that exposes any early-season rust.

Ones to Watch

Our picks below are informed opinion based on the form above — not a crystal ball.

Dante Moore (Oregon)
Returning Heisman candidate · 13–2 CFP semifinalists in 2025

Moore turned down the NFL to come back, and he quarterbacks a playoff-caliber roster at home in Autzen. As the headliner on the far more proven team, Oregon is the heavy favorite — and Moore is the reason.

Maddux Madsen (Boise State)
QB of the top G5 program, now in the Pac-12

Boise's returning starter leads a program used to punching up. A three-touchdown underdog on the road is a long shot, but if Boise is going to make its Pac-12 arrival memorable, it starts with Madsen keeping pace early.
